Coping during the Pandemic(#COVID-19)

Today, as we navigate through this pandemic, I think our world is emotionally grown closer than ever before! We were socially connected with one another but today we all are seeing life through the different sets of eyes with the same lens. We have realized how fragile our lives can be and what matters to us the most. How can we make a difference in the lives of the people around us? We are checking with one another and have opened the doors to our hearts with kindness!

Today, our countries are on a lock-down to flatten the curve and we are stuck at home. Even before this pandemic hit us, we lived in the same home, yet we had to adjust to the new norm of working or studying from our so-called "home". Yes, the uncertainty of the situation has created anxiety within us, but we are trying to find new ways to cope. We are learning to slow down and connect with our souls and also with our long-forgotten hobbies.

Most of us have experienced this for the first time in our lives. This is my first time as well. I am looking at it as an opportunity to look at my life and make a shift within my mind, body, and spirit. I am meditating every day to keep my mind at peace. To keep my body healthy, I am fueling it with greens, veggies, fruits with vitamin-C and enough proteins and carbohydrates to keep me going. Exercise has always been a priority and an integral part of my life. Though I am unable to go to my local gym, I am trying to stay active and strengthen my body with yoga, pilates, interval and strength training. To keep my spirits high, I am doing some DIY projects around the house. I even started karaoke, and I am trying out new recipes, listening to my favorite podcasts for my personal growth, and enjoying my favorite hobby, photography.

Spring Blooms in my neighborhood

Since it's warmer here and spring has sprung, I am fascinated by the blooms, the beautiful birds that have returned to their nests, and peaceful nature. And obviously, I can't keep my eyes off of it, and I am capturing it all. Though our streets, train stations, airports, museums, malls, retail stores, and places of worship are empty today, mother nature has been revived back to her full glory. Wildlife is coming out of their habitats, and the world is seeing bluer & clearer skies!

If you are still wondering what to do in your free time at home? Here is my list for you to try:

  • Create something- Look for DIY videos online

  • Learn a new skill- It can be a leisure activity or something to grow your professional skills so that you are ready to bounce back

  • Read

  • Imagine & Write - Imagine and write it down. Write a book, an article, a blog, or start a vlog

  • Sing

  • Dance

  • Talk to a friend- Call up a friend that you have not spoken for years and show them that you still love and think about them.

  • Work on your Relationships- Introspect and make positive changes to make your loved ones' lives more enjoyable.

  • Pray- Faith brings hope and hope helps us to fight fear.

  • Meditate- Just 10 minutes a day to take care of your mind and soul. It is the best remedy to relax oneself. Just Breathe!

  • Family Time- Find ways to spend family time together. Board games, card games, puzzles, and watch the family's favorite movies and shows. If you live in the suburbs like me- take long walks, bicycle rides together.

I am hopeful that this time will pass soon. I sympathize and am praying for those who are facing hardships and are currently in unfortunate situations. I am positive that we all will grow stronger together and will emerge as a better version of ourselves! In the meantime, let us all cherish our new norms. Wishing you all a healthy and blessed life ahead!
