Randyland! The most colorful and a must-see attraction here in Pittsburgh.
Though I lived in Pittsburgh pretty much half of my life, I was still unaware of this place! In December 2018, I was browsing through the internet for things to do during the holidays, and I came across this gem nestled in the heart of the city. Though the weather was freezing, we decided to give it a go and this place did not disappoint us. It was unbelievable to see what one person can do if he puts his heart at it! The person I am talking about is Randy Gilson - a visionary, mastermind and the founder of the most colorful Art Museum in Pittsburgh- Randyland. It is an outdoor display of his art and to visit it does not cost a penny as he accepts love and happiness in return. Everything at Randyland is created from the repurposed garbage. You will find all sorts of tossed away things that are put together to create art. The vibrantly painted wooden signs with greetings in the languages from all over the world, a wall decorated with mirrors, building exteriors painted with scenery, colorful steps, flowers, animals, birds, gargoyles, planters, flying chairs hung on the building wall and much much more. Irrespective of your age, this place is sure gonna catch your eye and bring a smile on your face!
Meet Randy
It was a pleasant encounter with the man behind this all! Randy stopped to chat with me about his dream and how it all started. He urged us to dream and to believe that we could also create the future of our dreams! He even happily took our selfie.
This incredible artist is rightly referred to as a "happiness hero" in his so-called house of happiness. Randy with his "heart of gold and his contagious positive attitude" had not only made my day but also inspired me to blend my passion and purpose in a unique and fulfilling way.
